LIFE
Country rocker Jack Ingram set to hit the stage this Friday
Texas-fried country rocker Jack Ingram threw caution and his sanity to the wind on Aug. 25, celebrating the release of his new CD by breaking the world's record for "Most Consecutive Radio Interviews in a 24-Hour Period."
More than a little happy to have those 20 hours in the rear-view, Ingram is ready to share his music with the fans in a more fun way -- live and in concert.
Ingram and the Eli Young Band open up for California native country rocker Gary Allan at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20, at the Big Sandy Superstore Arena.
Tickets are $31.50 and $41.50.
Ingram said he still has some bad flashbacks of his recent live-on-radio marathon.
"It was more like jovial yucks and giggles on the radio and not really thought provoking," said Ingram, who has a degree in psychology. "I was just trying to answer the same questions and make it sound fresh. I've been telling people it was like this ... when you're late for a flight, and you run to get there, and there's this long line at security, and it's not moving. It had that kind of anxiety. That's what it felt like for 20 hours. I just wanted to punch somebody or scream, but you know it created a big enough spectacle that it got the word out about my record."
Somebody should tell the thirtysomething he probably doesn't have to try that hard anymore to get attention.
His music is doing a pretty good job of talking for itself.
Touring and recording since 1997, the veteran of seven CDs has been getting more than his fair share of attention.
In 2008, the Academy of Country Music Association awarded Ingram "Best New Male Vocalist," and Ingram's been burning up some radio.
His last album contained the No. 1 hit "Wherever You Are," and his last single, "Barefoot and Crazy," became quite a summer anthem, climbing into the Top 10 on the country charts.
Ingram, who has played on Mountain Stage of couple times, said he's happy about his latest single, "I Love Seeing Stars," a beautiful song sung with Patty Griffin.
Ingram and Griffin debuted the song on "The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson" Nov. 2.
"She moved out to Austin, where I am from, and we had the same manager for about eight years, and so I've been friends with her for a long time," Ingram said. "She sang on a record of mine called 'Electric,' and I was lucky to have her do that and lucky to have her do this. I am like everybody else -- once you are exposed to her, you fall in love with her and her music."
Walking that line between country and rock, Ingram has quite a track record of securing opening tour slots with everyone from Sheryl Crow and Brooks and Dunn to Toby Keith and Martina McBride.
A longtime friend of Gary Allan, Ingram said he's happy to be out on the road again with Allan.
"I've been a fan of his for a long time since his first record from MCA in like 1997," Ingram said. "I had a deal at the time, and I was always looking for artists of the same ilk, and he takes that same kind of approach. He's went onto some bigger success sooner than I have, but I have been a fan of his since then. We got to tour together two years ago and had a great time, and his fans really got what I do."
