Central City Cafe to make Food Network debut
HUNTINGTON -- If you live in the Huntington area, you probably know the good eats at the cozy Central City Cafe, located on 14th Street West.
Now more than a few more folks will be in on the secret.
Central City Cafe, 529 14th St. W., Huntington, will be featured in an upcoming episode of the Food Network show "Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives."
The episode that features "Comfort Food" will show host Guy Fieri showcasing the Huntington cafe's cornbread, as well a Baltimore cafe with a variety of French Toast, a third-generation family place in San Antonio with comfort food Texas-style and a bakery-turned-restaurant in south Florida.
Air times for the show are 11 p.m. Sunday, June 15; 2 a.m. and 10 p.m., Monday, June 16; 1 a.m., June 17; 4 p.m., June 22; 9 p.m. June 27; midnight June 28; 1 p.m. June 30; 10:30 p.m. July 21, 1:30 a.m. July 22.
Opened in 1993, the Central City Cafe started out with six tables with 24 chairs and five stools.
Expanded to a second room in 1996, the Cafe is located in the heart of the old Central City, one of West Virginia's largest antique districts.
Its decor is vintage newspapers, old photographs and ancient hand tools on the walls, vying for space along with various Marshall University memorabilia and even a comic book autographed by Ceredo native (and frequent customer) Beau Smith.
Central City Cafe specializes home-cooked comfort food and a large variety of sandwiches and soups.
"I'm looking forward to it, and I'm hoping we are going to represent Huntington well," said owner David Luther, in a recent profile of his restaurant in The Herald-Dispatch. "It was quite an experience. They were here for four days and filmed 26 hours of film. Cutting that down to a seven-to-10 minute segment is a hard job for somebody. They were very nice and very cordial."
Central City Cafe is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday. It is closed on Sunday. Call 304-522-6142.
