DINNER: Lavalette Woman's Club hosts a turkey dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at the clubhouse. Turkey, gravy, dressing, mashed potatoes, cranberry salad, slaw, rolls and assorted desserts and beverages cost $8 and $4 for children.

BAZAARS: From 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at Central Freewill Baptist Church, 451 6th Ave., breakfast and lunch served; holiday bazaar/bake sale/soup and salad lunch sponsored by St. Ann's Catholic Women's Club, parish hall, 310 3rd Ave., Chesapeake, Ohio; Christmas bazaar, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Fourth Avenue United Methodist Church, 3031 4th Ave.

AUTHOR: It's an "author's" luncheon from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at The Renaissance Ballroom. Sydney Burns Turnbull, who grew up in Louisa, Ky., and is a long-time Huntington resident, discusses her new book, "The Sixth Floor -- Where Romance and Homicide Intersect." The cost is $20. NUMBER: It was a great number -- 61 classmates, family and friends of graduates from the 1946 Classes of Huntington East High School traveling from California, Arizona, Florida, Ohio, Kentucky and West Virginia -- attending the 63rd annual reunion activities in early October in Huntington. During the reunion, Kara Simpson, Chesapeake High School graduate attending Marshall University, was awarded the annual scholarship. Kara is granddaughter of Henry Stewart and Barbara Scarberry Stewart of Huntington, who is a classmate. Here's hoping these grads are blessed with another year or two of life, good health and leisure to attend future gatherings.

GAMES: Piecing together puzzles and playing games take place from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, at Pea Ridge United Methodist Church. Board game lovers may also bring favorites and a refreshment to share with others. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

GIVEAWAY: The large clothing and miscellaneous giveaway takes place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5 and Friday, Nov. 6, at Huntington City Mission, 624 10th St. Adult and children's clothing, shoes, toys and some household items are available.

SIGN: Debbie Chatterton Campbell, president of KYOWVA Genealogy Society, signs copies of her two books from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at Wayne County Public Library. The books, "The 120th Virginia Militia Regimental Book of Enquiry" and "The History of Owens-Illinois, Volume II," are $25 each. Call 304-272-3756.

FRIDAY'S BIRTHDAYS: Rachel Jenkins of Kitts Hill, Ohio, is three from 100 pennies (97), Doug McKee, Ava McMullen, Emily Pitkin, Sharon Ambrose, Randall Peterman, Vickie Hall, Kathleen Dunn, David Rich, Spencer Adkins, Mary Ann Ramsey, Caleb Cumptan, Jackie McMullen, Betty Craig is a young 81, Bob Leslie, David Burnette, Abigail Harman, Matt Miller, Jackie Riggio McCaffrey is three over 4-0 (43), Glenn Harman, Rhonda Crockett, Tina Leach and Randi Bias are one penny over a quarter (26), Teresa Loudermilk and Alec Bruce, kindergartener at Burlington Elementary who not only received points for reading AR books but scores high points with me, is 6.

FRIDAY'S ANNIVERSARIES: Kenny and Carolyn Smith, Jeff and Beth Combs, Joe Hairston III and Tosha Hairston celebrate number 6.

CHUCKLE: As two females sat on a park bench carrying on a conversation and watching the people walking, the proud grandmother said: "Have I shown you pictures of our new grandchild?" Reaching to get the picture, the other lady answered, "No, and I sure appreciate it."
