ASHLAND -- Just in time for the spookiest time of year, Halloween, the Backstage Players will present "Dracula."
Performances will be at 8 p.m. today, Friday and Saturday. There will also be a special midnight performance on Friday, Oct. 24. Performances will take place at the Franks Extension Building at the Boyd County Fairgrounds, located at 1760 Addington Road, Coalton, Ky.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for students and seniors. Tickets can be purchased at the door or from any cast member.
The Backstage Players will delve into the world of vampires, victims and vampire hunters created by Bram Stoker. As Count Dracula begins to exert his will upon the characters of the play, they try to piece together the clues of the mysterious happenings all around them in a valiant attempt to save themselves from a hideous fate. Rich with both humor and horror, this adaptation by Steven Dietz paints a wickedly theatrical picture of Stoker's famous vampire.
Backstage Players Inc., was founded in September 1991 with the support of the Paramount Arts Center and the Foundation for the Tri-State Community. During its 17-year existence, the Backstage Players' troupe has presented more than 37 productions; more than 1,200 students representing 30 schools from three states have been involved in more than 110 performances; more than 40,000 area residents and more than 35,000 students have attended public performances and school matinees respectively.
