ARTS presents family friendly murder mystery
HUNTINGTON -- David Day doesn't have a clue. He's got 216 of them.
Day is directing "Clue: The Musical," the classic who-done-it based on the board game and packed with music and 216 possible endings.
Arts Resources for the Tri-State presents the musical at 8 p.m. today through Sunday and Nov. 1-2. The Friday, Oct. 31, show will take place at 10 p.m. The shows are at The Renaissance Center, 8th Street and 9th Avenue.
Day said he couldn't pass on a chance to direct "Clue," which was first performed off-Broadway in 1998.
"It's the No. 1 selling murder mystery in the world and the No. 2 board game behind Monopoly, and I've just been a big fan since I was a kid," Day said. "I started researching it, and when they came to me and asked to direct, I enthusiastically said 'yes'."
The cast includes: Nathan Cron as Mr. Boddy, the host and victim; Jasmine Dodson is Mrs. White; Miles Klein is Professor Plum; David Mize is Colonel Mustard; Rachel Mize is the detective; Todd Preston is Mr. Green; Karen Pruitt is Mrs. Peacock and Marina Jurica plays Miss Scarlet.
Day said while people are not familiar with the musical aspect of "Clue," he thinks they'll enjoy it.
"One of my favorite parts of the production is 'She Doesn't Have a Clue,' " he said. "They all sound great. I've really enjoyed working with this cast, an amazing, talented cast and just love watching the whole production coming together, slowly adding the costumes and the set and the lights and the props. It's awesome to see the vision that was in my head two months ago alive on the stage."
The show is set up like the board game and set at the "Boddy Manor," where there is a dinner party set in present day.
Three people from the audience get to pick the main pieces of the murder puzzle before the action begins. One picks the place, one the weapon and another the person.
With the audience interaction, there are 216 possible endings to the play -- even the cast won't know how it ends until the last minute. Day said audience members will get cards and pencils to eliminate clues.
Dinner is available prior to the show tonight, Saturday and Nov. 1, but advance reservations are required. Call 304-733-2787.
On Oct. 31, there will be a special 10 p.m. "Clue" show with the ARTS All-Star Show Choir putting on a haunted house at 8 p.m.
Day said he can't think of a better production for the season.
"I think just because of the time of year it makes it perfect," Day said. "It's a murder mystery during Halloween, and it's a family show. A lot of Halloween things are not family oriented but this is."
