SOCIALIZE: An ice cream social with cookies, cakes, pies and beverages is from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, at YWCA Building, 633 5th Ave. Huntington Cabell Republican Women's Club also offers cakes, pies and cobblers for sale to the highest bidders, with Mark Bates as guest auctioneer. Tickets are $3 or $10 per family. Proceeds help fund 2009 Camp Lincoln Scholarships. Candidates for November's upcoming election are also expected to attend. Lisa McComas is the event coordinator. RETIRED: Master Sgt. Robert A. Berry retired from the U.S. Air Force after 20-plus years of dedicated service. Rob, a Cannonsburg, Ky., native, resides in Chambersburg, Pa., with his wife, the former Beth Adkins of Lavalette, daughter of Betty Adkins Trimble of Huntington and the late Marshall Adkins. Rob is the son of Phyllis Berry and the late Lawrence Berry. Here's hoping for a fulfilling retirement, Rob.
SHOWED UP: Eight of them showed up. Members of Buford Chapter National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution attended the recent 61st annual West Virginia DAR Western District meeting in Charleston. Participants were Carolne Rappold, regent; Sandra Newman, first vice regent; Jill Ashworth, second vice regent; Barbara Rutledge, registrar; Sally O. Cyrus, board of directors; Patricia Daugherty, Western District director and state chairman, DAR Museum; Anne Cummings, state chairman, American Indians; and Mary C. Collins, state chairman, public relations and media.
ROASTED: Steve Lovejoy, social studies teacher and athletic director retiring from Cabell Midland High School, is being roasted, as a matter of speech. Actually, he's the star of the fundraiser banquet honoring years of service at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 22. The spaghetti dinner, which includes spaghetti, salad, roll and drink, costs $10. REUNITE: Descendants of Joseph and Elizabeth Moxley Hash unite for the eighth annual family reunion from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, at Mud River Baptist Church, U.S. 60 East, Ona. A covered-dish dinner is served at 12:30 p.m.
FAMILY AFFAIR: Dot Dillard of Huntington has a grandson and great-grandsons living in Muncie, Ind., but she hasn't forgotten their birthdays -- grandson Mark celebrated one in May; great-grandson, Skyler celebrated his seventh in July; and another great-grandson, Alec, celebrates number 5 today. Mamaw Dot celebrated her birthday on Aug. 9.
