MILITARY: Air Force Airman Brandon S. Rimmer graduated from basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. Brandon, a 2005 Ironton High grad, is son of Scott Rimmer of Ironton.
MARCH ON: For a good cause ... The 2008 Huntington March for Babies, formerly Walk America, is set for 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, at Ritter Park. PEACE: A free preview of Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University begins at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27, at Ceredo's First Congregational Church. WEST POINTERS: Cadets Derek Michael Mitchell and Marissa Dey graduated from the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, N.Y. Mitchell, son of George and Brenda Mitchell of South Point, Ohio, graduated from South Point High in 2002 and commissioned as a second lieutenant in U.S. Army within the armor branch. He reports to Fort Riley, Kan., for his first assignment. Dey, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Michael Dey of Gallipolis, Ohio, graduated from Huntington High in 2004 and attended Gallia Academy three years. Dey was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army within the military intelligence branch. Her first assignment is with the 101st Airborne, Fort Campbell, Ky.
CALLING: Former Marines are welcome to attend today's meeting of the Huntington Detachment 340 Marine Corps League. Commandant Jack Vital says the monthly meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. at VFW, 920 7th Ave.
SCOTTISH: Natalie Elkins, a 2008 Fairland High graduate who plans to attend Marshall University, received an Abbott Scottish Rite Scholarship from the Scottish Rite Masons of Cincinnati. She is the daughter of Wayne and Tina Elkins.
ATHLETES: David Lockwood, Joy Bryant-Harris and Max Stull, members of Huntington's Tri-State Transplant Support Group, are athletes of sorts. The Huntington neighbors recently brought home medals from the U.S. Transplant Games competition in Pittsburgh, Pa. Joy, who had a liver transplant in 2002, won silver medals in 100-meter and 200-meter dashes. David, who had a heart transplant in 2002, won gold medals in men's tennis doubles. Max, who also had a liver transplant, received a gold medal in tennis for his age group. Congratulations to these award-winning athletes.

CHUCKLE: An old gentleman was fussing around in the dark on the floor of a nearby theater. Finally a lady asked him what he had lost. "A chocolate caramel," replied the gentleman. "All that fuss over a piece of candy?" said the lady in a disgusted voice. "Yes," said the old gentleman. "My teeth are in it."
