COMPLETED: Fifteen high school students recently completing course requirements at Cabell County Career Technology Center include Courtland Bailey, Travis Bailey, Andrew Bates, Anse Blake, Shane Brotherton, Terry Burton, James Chapman, Lester Counts, Ronald Dean, Michael Gibbs, Jon Harris, Michael Honaker, Joseph Lawhon, Brandon McCoy and Zachary Miller.
BOOSTERS: A community rummage sale, flea market, cruise-in car show and poker run are offered to boost sales for Chesapeake Band Boosters on Saturday, Sept. 6, in the parking area between Chesapeake High and Chesapeake Middle schools. Rummage sale spots are $15 each or $25 for two. Concessions are also available. Proceeds help purchase new uniforms for the high school marching band. FOLK FEST: Doris H. Billups of Milton was accompanied to the 2008 annual West Virginia State Folk Festival in Glenville, W.Va., by her daughter, Jane Ann Clark of Culloden, W.Va. The Milton resident, an industrial nurse in a physician's office and employed at Morris Memorial Hospital for Children, served as a goodwill ambassador. To enter the event, one must be at least 70 years old or older.
SALUTE: Put those hands to the forehead and give Ernie Salvatore a salute or two. Or better yet, purchase a ticket to honor this long-time local sportswriter to raise funds for an annual sports journalism scholarship in his name at Marshall University. The "salute" begins with cocktails at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12, at the MU Memorial Student Center, followed by dinner at 7 p.m. Corporate tables are $500, $1,000 and $1,500. Individual tickets are $50, available at the MU School of Journalism at Dean Corley Dennison's Office, Room 100 in the Communications Building, Jeffrey E. PRESENTATION: Suzi Brodof of Huntington traveled to Washington recently to share a presentation on collaboration and coordination at the State and Territory Child Care Administrators meeting. Suzi is the executive director of River Valley Child Development Services in Huntington.
WELCOME: The newest attorney to join Jenkins Fenstermaker is Rachel Perdue Turner, a Huntington native and summa cum laude grad with a bachelor of science degree in accounting from Washington and Lee University in 2001. Rachel obtained a law degree from Washington and Lee University School of Law in 2004, as she graduated magna cum laude.
