MEET: David Maynard sings at the annual May dinner meeting for GFWC Westmoreland Woman's Club at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 8, at the clubhouse. Skipper Maynard offers devotion. Pat John leads the pledge. Hostesses are Lillian Midkiff, chairperson, Marlene Thacker, co-chairperson, Jeanie Hanley and Jean Rickman. Officers are installed for the term 2008-10 by Pam McCoy, GFWC WV treasurer.

GOLDEN KEY: Mark R. Allen, an East Carolina University student, isn't holding a golden key, but something of that nature. Mark, son of Mary Kris Fischer Godley of Garner, N.C., was recently honored with the Golden Key International Honor Society award. His grandparents, Harry and Marjorie Fischer, residents at The Woodlands Retirement Community, are equally proud of this young man.

CONDOLENCES: Whether young or old, it's sad to hear news about the passing of someone you know. Such is the case with Bernice Davis Johnson of Salt Rock, who passed away April 25. Bernice, her late husband Harold, and daughters, Jacquelyn and Gerri, have been on my favorites list for almost 40 years. Prayers and thoughts remain with the family.

BABY: Keith and Juliet Matthews Felts of Roanoke, Va., both 1994 Marshall University graduates, became parents April 26. Mattison Ruth Felts is also granddaughter of Jewell Matthews of Huntington and the late Frank E. Matthews Jr. May this little blessing add many hours of enjoyment and laughter to the family.

CONFIRMANDS: Six candidates participated in the Confirmation Sunday, April 27, at St. Peter's Episcopal Church. Confirmands were Joe Blazer, Stephanie Rice, Jessica Litton, Angela Ramsey, Michaela Lunsford and Steven Lunsford.

BRUNCH: Prince of Peace Freewill Baptist Church hosts the annual ladies fellowship brunch at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 10, in the fellowship hall, 4637 Piedmont Road. "Women of Influence," featuring portrayals of influential women of the Bible, is the theme. Soul Purpose sings.

OUTBACK: Mike Rayson, who has relocated his ministry from Outback, South Australia, to Pleasant View, Tenn., comes to Huntington tonight for a concert. The performance, featuring the regular worship leader and preacher at the Upper Room, begins at 6:30 p.m. at Highlawn Baptist Church.

LOVELY: The lovely wedding of Matt Anderson and Kiliaen Parks took place March 29 in Cumberland, Md. Matt is the son of Howard and Linda Anderson of Huntington. The couple resides in Virginia. Here's wishing Matt and Kiliaen many blessed years.

BELATED: Channing Friend, Susan Stonesifer, Gregory Cooke, May 1; Ben Barber, Jennifer Kimbler, Robert Wilcox, Molly Jane Lambert, Elizabeth Nance, Pam Ferguson, Jessi Scarberry, Rhiannon Brewer, May 2; Jim Backus, Teri Drown, Chase Bennett, Terri Chambers, Mary Stephenson, George Watts, Dotty Johnson, Rod Moehling, May 3; Kimmy Martin, Lynda Hunter, Monica Johnston, John Collins, Megan McCoy, Wayne Pollard, Roland Bell, Charlene Evans, Madeline Holt, Jessica Thomas, Jean Dague, May 4; Bart Thompson, Mark McCallister, May 5.

TODAY'S BIRTHDAYS: Twins Andy Battista of Biloxi, Miss. and Artie Battista of Huntington, become another year older, as Michael Scott Johnson turns 42 and Opal Cecil turns 84. Others blowing the birthday horn are Jean Lane, Tyler Turner, Art Malcom, Chris Head, Midge Arthur, Cassidy Miles, Bob Scott, Bethany Woodall, Jeannie Day, Betty Nelson, Megan Sheets, David Ashworth, Howard Mayes, Chad Lusher, Sarah Stanley, Shane Mills and Greg Briers. Okay, Ibri Trammell, one of the most "smilingest" and intelligent young ladies of all time and daughter of Aaron and Ida Trammell, turns 7.

TODAY'S ANNIVERSARY: John and Jeanne Hubbard.

CHUCKLE: The bride was anything but a tidy housekeeper. It didn't bother her much until one evening when her husband called from the hall, somewhat dismayed: "Honey, what happened to the dust on this table? I had a phone number written on it."
