'In the Midst Of It All' returns to Huntington

September 17, 2009 @ 12:00 AM

HUNTINGTON -- Playwright Norman Branch and the Positive People Association are back for another performance of Branch's original play called, "In the Midst of It All," a music-filled drama about young adults and the struggle and the joy and the temptations of life.

"In The Midst of It All," will be performed by a cast that includes RaShad "Illspin" Saunders, Angela Linthicum Young, Doug Brooks, Isaac "Duke" Adams, and Demeley "Demples," Smith.

Performances will be at 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday, Sept. 17-18, and 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, at the Huntington High Renaissance Center, 900 8th St.

Based on Ephesians 6:12, the drama, "In The Midst Of It All," is a modern look at one man as he wrestles with good and evil in his own mind and his own life as temptations of the wild life flow with women and drugs.

Written by Branch and presented by the Positive People Association, the Christian drama has been performed in Huntington at the Keith-Albee Performing Arts Center as well as at Ashland's Paramount Arts Center.

The production features Branch, as Andre, a high-class bachelor who wrestles with his convictions and his conscience brought to life on stage by Saunders.

Saunders plays the mind and soul's dark side while Brooks, a local author, plays the moral side of Andre's soul

The two wage a spiritual battle of words on stage trying to steer Andre's life, as Andre and his best friend Earnest roll through a life of drugs and women in the play, which is about a PG-rated offering.

Branch, who has written about 10 plays, said this one ministers to everybody who is fighting that daily battle between good and evil in his or her own life.

"It was my first attempt at a gospel play," Branch said in a previous interview with The Herald-Dispatch. "And it is a spiritual play but we don't hold anything back. You have to see what he is going through and him constantly being pulled back and forth."

Tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the door. Call 740-646-1649 or e-mail at positivepeopleassoc@yahoo.com.
