MU notebook: Plenty of basketball left

Jan. 30, 2012 @ 09:20 PM

Marshall has nine games left to play in the Conference USA men’s basketball regular season and five of them are against teams below the Thundering Herd in the standings.

Five of them are also at home, beginning with Tulane’s visit Wednesday night.

Marshall has the time and schedule to move up from fifth place. The Thundering Herd began conference play last season with a 3-6 record and won six of its next seven for a 9-7 finish.

RPI DIP: Consecutive losses to UAB and Memphis dropped Marshall to No. 68 in the NCAA Rating Percentage Index. The Herd has a No. 30 Strength of Schedule index and its non-conference SOS is No. 23.

The loss Saturday at No. 27 Memphis made the Herd 0-4 against the RPI Top 50.
