Watkeys Food Market, previously Haydens Market, was along 8th Street across from Huntington High School. "My father, Charles Watkeys, and Mr. Hayden were initially partners until my father bought him out," said Watkeys' daughter, Judith Watkeys Fortner. "After Daddy purchased it, the street changed to parallel parking. Where eight or nine cars could park, then there was only room for four -- with three businesses there (Haydens/Watkeys, Brown's Grill and Tradewell)."

The C&P Telephone Co. at 1135 6th Ave. The man at right is Leonard Seldomridge, a Central Office Repairman (later a supervisor), according to Jim Mitchell. "The wire and blocks equipment he is working on is called a 'frame,' " he said. "This one is the Intermediate Distributing Frame (IDF). The wiring on these blocks determined if you had a private or party line. I'm retired from C&P/Bell Atlantic/Verizon, and this IDF was my first job assignment. I was called a 'Frameman.' The equipment to the left are switches that operate when a customer dials a number. This has all been replaced by digital computers."
