Howie McCormick/For The Herald-Dispatch Hollywood celebrity Matthew McConaughey as former Marshall University Head Football Coach Jack Lengyel on Merrill Street Wednesday, April 19, 2006 during filming of the upcoming Warner Bros. title "We Are... Marshall" set to hit the screen later this year. The movie depicts the Marshall University plane crash of 1970 which claimed the lives of 37 players, 12 coaches and university staff members, 5 flight crew members and 21 townspeople. In the scene pictured above, Lengyel (McConaughey) steps outside to pick up the morning paper as he is greeted by cheering fans heading to Fairfield Stadium to watch the Thundering Herd take on Xavier University.

In 2006, the Tri-State was invaded by Hollywood.
For weeks, residents were able to watch some filming take place for "We Are Marshall," as well as running into actors about and out.
Filming began April 3, 2006, in Huntington and concluded in Atlanta on June 21, 2006.
The Warner Bros. production is an inspirational drama based on the true story of Marshall's and Huntington's efforts to rebound from the tragic plane crash on Nov. 14, 1970.
