This photo was published Aug. 3, 1942, according to Nora Burns. It was a parade of the West Virginia Fire Association in Huntington. The two boys at left are Carl Burns (Nora's husband) and Eugene Jenkins. The photo was taken at the intersection of 4th Avenue and 8th Street. The building on the corner is the Dickinson Furniture building. The fire truck is a 1940 model American LaFrance, according to Robert S. Miller, deputy chief of the Ohio River Road Volunteer Fire Department. Miller served on the Huntington Fire Department.

Men take their draft physicals in the World War II era at Vanity Fair, 629 4th Ave. Vanity Fair, built in 1915, was once home to the Marshall College basketball team, until the Veterans Memorial Field House opened in 1950. In 1991, the building was renovated into a housing complex for single people who have little or no income by the Cabell-Huntington Coalition for the Homeless.
