Gallery: Do you remember? -- July 30, 2012

The Trailways Bus Station was located at 12th Street and 4th Avenue in Huntington. It is now the location of Dan's Sport Shop. "I attend First United Methodist Church, and I will tell you that pin-ball machine in the lower right corner of the photo sucked up many a nickel intended for the Sunday School collection plate," said Richard McCoy of Huntington. "If a parent found their child missing after Sunday School, there was a 100 percent chance they were in the Trailways waiting room playing the pin-ball machine or slurping a soda at the counter."

While we no longer have very many photos from those early years, we do have a stash of negatives from the 1950s and early 1960s. Our dated, organized negative archives begin in April 1966.

Since December 2010, we have been scanning boxes of old negatives and posting them here at www.herald-dispatch.com/historicalphotos. We add what caption information we know, and readers have been helping to fill in the gaps.

If you can add caption information to any of the photos (or correct a caption we already have), email online editor Andrea Copley-Smith at acopley@herald-dispatch.com. Be sure to include the title of the gallery, details of the photo, your name and phone number.

Reprints of these photos are available. Find the photo you would like to purchase, then click "Purchase this photo" underneath it. Prices are $6 for a 4x6, $11 for a 5x7 and $15 for an 8x10. There are also bigger photo sizes and framing options, if you would be interested

The George H. Wright Co. at 4th Avenue and 10th Street. The historic family business was opened by George H. Wright in 1911. It was later owned by his son, George Jr., who died in an auto accident in the 1960s. George Wright Jr.'s wife, Becky, and sister, Betty Crickard, took over for a while, before selling the shop to Chuck Jambe in 1974. Jambe later sold it to his son-in-law, Bill Moore. The store closed in December 2009, but was remodeled and reopened in May 2010.

"By the foot traffic, you can realize he had a good chance of selling all the stack under his arm and maybe another," he said. "The sun appears to be high noon, and he has the street edition of the Advertiser, the first news update since the home-final of the Herald-Dispatch delivered in the morning."
