U.S. Army Pfc. Jessica Lynch is carried on a stretcher off a C-17 military plane at the U.S. air base in Ramstein, southern Germany, early Thursday, April 3, 2003. Lynch was rescued by U.S. special forces more than a week after she and other members of her unit were captured in Iraq. She will be brought to the nearby Landstuhl Medical Center.

Pfc. Jessica Lynch, orginally from Wirt County, W.Va., was rescued from Iraqi capture on April 1, 2003. Lynch gained national attention after her rescue and is now a teacher, student and motivational speaker.
