The Herald-Dispatch

Former Marshall football assistant coach Red Dawson poses in front of the Memorial Fountain at Marshall University on Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2006, in Huntington, W.Va. Dawson was the Thundering Herd's defensive coordinator when a plane carrying 75 people including fellow coaches and players crashed November 1970 near Huntington Tri-State Airport. Dawson was not on the plane back from East Carolina because he was making a recruiting trip. The following year Dawson stayed with the team as a receivers coach.
