I am a dedicated fan of Marshall University because I am proud of what all of the teams have been able to accomplish through the years. Through the good, bad, and ugly, I will never give up on Marshall and I will cheer them on until the clock runs out! Home is where the Herd is!

Eric Hayhurst shared why he loves WVU: I have been a Mountaineer fan for as long as I can remember. I never made a conscious decision to become a Mountaineer fan, I have just always been one. To me, there has been no other option than to be a Mountaineer fan. I guess that is so because WVU is the state's flagship university, and being born and raised in northern West Virginia, it is a symbol of pride for me. My passion for the Mountaineers has only intensified during both my undergraduate and, now, professional education at WVU.

Derek Bonner shared his love for the Mountaineers: I have been a long time supporter of the Mountaineers. I have been in attendance since I was very young. I'm in the stands for all the home games as well as a handful of away games each season. My wardrobe consists of gold and blue and I paint my face for every game. It's a special feeling to wear the gold and blue and it's an honor to be an alumni and fan of West Virginia University.

Being a WVU fan in Huntington isnÕt easy. I grew up in the northern part of West Virginia, but moved to Huntington in 1995 when my family relocated from out west. Although itÕs a long trip, we make the trip to Morgantown for most home games. There is nothing like the Pride of West Virginia playing Country Roads and making the state of West Virginia at Mountaineer Field. Attached is a picture of my kids taken before the UConn game last fall at Mountaineer Field. Lauren Mahaney, 13, and an eighth-grader at Our Lady of Fatima School, and John Mahaney is in the fourth grade at Southside Elementary.

Sam Hodge, shown with his fiancee Mindy Becker, who will be married on July 3, 2009, shares their support for the Thundering Herd: We are fans because Marshall football has always represented the strength of our community. The abilty to overcome and desire to be champions is ultimately strong with our fans and players. I was in the drumline at Marshall from 2001 through 2007. Now I paint my face and go crazy supporting the team along with my fiancee who became a Marshall football fan as soon as she set foot on campus!

Jeremy Criss, a 2001 Marshall graduate, shown in this picture with Andrea Criss, a 2003 graduate who received her master's in 2008, shared why he supports Marshall: Growing up in southern West Virginia (Mount Hope) I was a WVU fan and slightly a Marshall fan. In that area at the time, Marshall got about as much attention and media coverage as Concord or Glenville College. However, I attended SCORES at Marshall my sophomore year and got to know the tradition of Marshall University and the bond between our university and the community. I got to visit Marshall a few more times over the next two years and it came down to attending Marshall or WVU. After visiting both places, it was a no-brainer. The deciding factors for me: the campuses, the academic structure, and most of all the people. When visiting WVU, I felt much like an outsider. The people treated you differently because you were from the state of West Virginia. I also felt embraced by the Marshall staff and its leaders. I was recruited in football by both Marshall abd WVU. The difference between Don Nehlen and Bob Pruett was night and day. Don Nehlen and his staff had no interest in being cordial; Coach Pruett and his staff treated me like I was family. My wife Andrea and I attend all Marshall functions that we can, when we were married last year, we walked down the aisle to "Sons of Marshall," and when our baby is born in December, itÕs first outfit is going to be branded with Marshall University.

Allie McCracken, a Marshall University 2006 alumna, shown in this photo with her fiance Jeremy Gessel, shared this: Why I am a fan (The Biggest Fan) of Marshall University is thereÕs no other color than green that I bleed. I was born into a Marshall family! My dad, Rob McCracken who is an alumnus of Marshall met my mom Debbie McCracken who went to Marshall and then St. MaryÕs where she received her nursing degree. My sister, Kristen Shockey and I are also alumnae from MU. She graduated in 2001 and continued her education where she received her masterÕs degree. I graduated in 2006 with my bachelorÕs degree in psychology. While I went to school at Marshall, I adopted another huge herd fan, my puppy Trixie Lou McCracken! She shows her spirit for the herd by putting on her Marshall cheerleading uniform for every game! I am getting married June 6, 2009, to a great guy, and Marshall fan, Jeremy Gessel, where we will be walking down the aisle to "The Sons of Marshall." I call myself the biggest Marshall fan, but I know a lot of people who would also considerers themselves the biggest fans also. One thing that I love about MU fans is the dedication that we all give to the school and sports teams. Sometime Marshall has some hard times, but we will always be there to cheer them on, and never turn our backs on the Herd. To conclude my story I just want to say that best time of my life was when I went to Marshall. Green and white will be the only colors that you will see me cheering for! Go Herd!

Rachel McGlone shown accompanying her dad, Bob McGlone, to the finish line of the 2006 Marshall University Marathon, shared why she is a Marshall fan: I'm a fan of Marshall, of course, since I'm a life-long Huntington resident, a Marshall graduate, and my daughter is in her first year there. And what a great way to finish-up a marathon, carrying a football the last 100 yards in that great stadium! Sign up for this year's race: You'll have a blast! Go Herd!

Rachel Blankenship, shown on the left with some of the track team, shared this story about why she is fan: I bleed the green and white. No offense towards the blue and gold but I really hope that Marshall prevails this year. I was a former athlete at Marshall myself who just graduated in May and I know the effort that our boys put into their game. When Marshall's team plays, they play to win not just to look good. WVU is a good team but they get ahead of themselves way to easily. They let their heads get in the way and don't concentrate on the game. I spent four years at Marshall on the track team and throughout those four years I grew to love Marshall even more. I am a Marshall fan and I hope that they show WVU who is the Number 1 university in the state! Go Herd!

I graduated from Marshall University in 1963. When I started we were still Marshall College. I was 20 years old when I graduated and started my career as what is now called a flight attendant. I was a green and white fan and supported Marshall by attending the games wherever they played. Although I no longer attend the games, I still support them! Most stewardesses did not fly forever during the Ô60s and early Ô70s. I stopped flying and took a professional job in the field of home economics, which now is called "family and consumer resources." I moved to Arizona and went to graduate school at the University of Arizona, but the wildcats could never compare to the herd in my heart! My second masterÕs degree is in counseling and it is a Marshall degree from the graduate center in South Charleston. Back to the green and white! Blue and gold is fine for those fans of our northern school, but give me Marshall, my memories and mementos any day! They have become a treasure of my soul.
