Gallery: Covenant School students take part in experiment
Covenant School parent Dr. Thomas Rushton conducted a science experiment with the third-grass class on Nov. 12, using cyanotype -- which uses the sun's UV rays to create a blueprint exposure.

On Friday, Nov. 12, Dr. Thomas C. Rushton, whose two children attend the school, led a cyanotype demonstration in the parking lot. And on an unseasonably warm day with plenty of sunshine, it went very well.
Rushton, who is an infection disease specialist, also is a photography hobbyist. A friend, he said, introduced him to a book that discusses the history of photographic processes. In it, it talks about cyanotype.
A cyanotype is a photographic printing process that gives a cyan-blue print. The simple and low-cost process produces large-scale copies of work, referred to as blueprints.
