Jessica Lynch, the West Virginia prisoner of war who was rescued in April 2003 after being held captive in Iraq, receives a stuffed animal from five-year-old Julia Preservati during a book signing session at Empire Books and News prior to the start of the Heiner's Summer Concert Series on Thursday, Aug. 20, 2009, at Pullman Square. Lynch collects stuffed animals for Jessi's Pals, a program she launched for patients at WVU Children's Hospital.

Pfc. Jessica Lynch, orginally from Wirt County, W.Va., was rescued from Iraqi capture on April 1, 2003. Lynch gained national attention after her rescue and is now a teacher, student and motivational speaker.
