In 2001, Marshall had expected to travel to Texas the week of Sept. 15 to take on the Horned Frogs of TCU. However, all games were cancelled after the terrorist attacks on New York City and Washington, D.C. As the nation was reminded of life's delicate balance, the atmosphere was uniquely familiar to the Marshall community. Younger Herd players may not have known much about the Marshall plane crash, but they came to understand what the community lost 30 years earlier. They also were inspired that the young Marshall program that absolutely refused to die, blazed the path they now walked.
