Boil water advisory issued for residents of Roland Park area

September 13, 2009 @ 01:23 PM

HUNTINGTON — West Virginia American Water has issued a boil water advisory for customers in the Roland Park area of Huntington.

Crews are working to fix a water main break that caused service disruption.

The areas under advisory are Forest Road, Locust Drive, Sandlewood Road, Green Oak Drive, King’s Highway, Marquis Drive, Summit Drive, Hillendale Road, Gallaher Street, Roland Park Drive, Buering Drive, Marne Drive, and the 16th Street Interchange.

The affected area is residential, except for a few restaurants and hotels on the 16th Street Interchange.

Boiling water kills bacteria and other organisms that may be present in the water.

West Virginia American Water also recommends throwing away beverages and ice cubes made with tap water, keeping boiled water in the fridge for drinking and providing pets with boiled water (after cooling).

Do not use home filtering devices in place of boiling or using bottled water. Most home water filters will not provide adequate protection from microorganisms.

For more information, call the water company at 800-685-8660.
