Marshall Artists Series hosting Mozart opera on Monday

March 11, 2010 @ 03:30 PM

HUNTINGTON — The true-life antics of Don Juan of Seville will play out live at the Keith-Albee Performing Arts Center Monday, March 15, at 8 p.m.  Don Giovanni, presented by the Marshall Artists Series, will be the first presentation of the opera in Huntington in more than 40 years.

Performed in original Italian with supertitles, Don Giovanni tells the story of Don Juan, an aristocratic womanizer who lived in the medieval town of Seville, Spain, in the 1600’s. Juan was known for his conquests, but this tale highlights the ones that went wrong.

The production features a 30-piece orchestra as well as full-scale sets and costumes. Opera News, a publication of the Metropolitan Opera House in New York City, called the production “something personal and passionate that is often missing from evenings of opera.” The article continued to explain how the solo and ensemble singing was “lusty, whole-hearted, full-throated and honest.”

Mozart Festival Opera is one of the most successful opera touring companies touring today. Under the artistic direction of Giogio Lavlov, Don Giovanni has received positive critical acclaim for the exceptional performances of its stars and outstanding stage direction.

Tickets are $55, $50 & $45.  To order tickets call 304-696-6656 or order online at www.ticketmaster.com or they may be purchased at the Marshall Artists Series Box Office located in the Joan C.
