TTA giving free rides for canned food

Nov. 16, 2012 @ 12:00 AM

HUNTINGTON -- In exchange for a canned food item, people can ride on Tri-State Transit Authority buses and Dial-A-Ride vans for free on Saturday, Nov. 17.

On that day, TTA is conducting its annual Food-For-Fares drive. That means a canned food item will be accepted for fare all day long in place of cash, passes and value cards on TTA's vehicles.

The food that TTA collects will be donated to the local Salvation Army to help meet needs during the holiday season.

Those who don't normally ride the TTA can still contribute. Canned food donations can be taken to the TTA Center on the corner of 4th Avenue and 13th Street in downtown Huntington. Contributors can park in the bus stop in front of the bus station and bring their donations inside the front door to be placed in a receptacle.
