Fire department probes sunken boat
HUNTINGTON -- The Huntington Fire Department dispatched its rescue boat Saturday morning after a passerby called 911 to report a partially submerged boat floating in the Ohio River near the West Virginia shoreline.
The call was received about 9:30 a.m., with the boat east of the 12th Street entrance to Harris Riverfront Park. By 10:15 a.m., it had floated more than three city blocks toward West Huntington.
The rescue boat went out at 11 a.m. from the boat ramp at 12th Street to investigate. The crew on the boat tried to tow the vessel, which had one of its ends sticking out of the water, but they reported it being caught on something.
They estimated it to be about 20 feet long. They were able to get the hull number and reported it to Cabell County dispatchers.
