Leak sends latex solution into Kanawha River
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — West Virginia officials say someone opened a valve on a state Division of Highways truck and leaked a latex-enhancing solution near Magic Island.
The state Department of Environmental said Thursday that the leak occurred at an area under the Fort Hill Bridge.
The DOH parked several trucks and equipment in that area and someone apparently broke into that area and opened a valve on one of the trucks.
The truck leaked a latex concrete additive into a storm drain. Some of the solution went into the Kanawha River near Magic Island.
The Charleston Gazette reports that officials said the chemical is not harmful.
