Body washes up on Ky. side of Tug Fork River
SOUTH WILLIAMSON, Ky. (AP) — Authorities in eastern Kentucky say a motorist spotted a human body in the Tug Fork River.
Belfry Fire Chief Nee Jackson told WYMT-TV in Hazard the body washed up on the Kentucky side of the river, which follows the state line between Kentucky and West Virginia. Kentucky State Police are heading the investigation.
Jackson said the driver who first saw the body on Monday stopped and used binoculars to make certain what he saw and then called police.
The remains were taken to Frankfort for an autopsy and to determine identification.
Mingo County, W.Va., authorities say they are looking for a missing person.
