Beech Fork employee found dead
BARBOURSVILLE -- A 25-year-old man who was mowing grass at Beech Fork State Park Tuesday was found dead at about 2 p.m. by another employee.
Sgt. Michael Baylous, the public information officer with the West Virginia State Police, said a trooper from the Wayne County detachment responded to the Four Coves campground at the park. The incident report states that the employee, whose name had not been released as of Wednesday, was found in the lake under the mower.
"An employee of the campground appears to have been riding the mower and it had turned over in the lake with him on it," Baylous said.
The incident is being treated as an accident, he said.
"It's an absolute tragedy," said Brad Reed, a district administrator with the State Parks Central Offices in Charleston. "Our deepest sympathies go out to his family and friends."
In a statement released late Wednesday morning by the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources, the man is identified only as a maintenance worker.
