Screen printing company to eliminate 49 jobs at Culloden facility

CULLODEN — A screen-printing and embroidery company will eliminate more than half of its workforce at its Culloden facility, a company spokeswoman said Tuesday.

T-Shirt International will lay off 49 of the 88 full-time employees who work at the screen-printing facility on Dec. 31, company spokeswoman Jennifer Martinson said. The employees were notified of the layoffs last week.

T-Shirt International merged with another screen-printing company about a year ago and acquired its screen-printing facility in Oak Creek, Wisc., Martinson said. Some of the jobs at the Culloden facility will be transferred to Wisconsin, but Martinson said it has not been determined how many.

“We do plan on posting opportunities in the near future for employees in Culloden who may want to transfer to our facility in Wisconsin,” she said.

The company will use its Culloden facility in the future to process pre-embroidered products that it buys for retail clients, Martinson said.

“With the reduction of the 49 full-time employees, we foresee that we can do the job with the remaining workforce, but time will tell whether we need to add more,” she said.

T-Shirt International was founded in 1983 and has become one of the nation's largest screen printers and embroiders of T-shirts, sweatshirts and other sportswear. The 143,000-square-foot facility in Culloden has a daily production capacity of 90,000 printed and 12,000 embroidered units.

The company was ranked among the top 10 licensees for the Collegiate Licensing Company earlier this year.
