State solicits applicants for Byrd scholarships

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) — The Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority will be accepting applications for Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarships from Dec. 1 through Feb. 1.

All high school seniors are eligible for the scholarhips worth up to $1,500 a year for four years of college.

The applicants have to be recommended by their high school officials.

The scholarship is named for longtime Democratic U.S. Sen. Robert C. Byrd of West Virginia who authored the legislation that established the program in 1985.

Kentucky has received funding to award 84 scholarships each year.
