W.Va. AG warns of scammers after getting e-mail
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — West Virginia Attorney General Darrell McGraw is warning residents not to fall for phishing scams after his office received a bogus bank e-mail seeking personal information.
The e-mail claimed that the recipient’s online bank account had been suspended. It requested a Social Security number, date of birth and other personal information to resolve the problem.
McGraw says legitimate companies don’t ask for such information through e-mail.
He says anyone receiving a similar e-mail should not reply or click on any links in the message. Instead, the e-mail should be forwarded to spam(at)uce.gov and to the company or institution that is being impersonated.
