November 29, 2009 @ 12:54 PM

CHARLESTON — Tickets for West Virginia Public Broadcasting’s 17th annual Joy to the World holiday concert with Bob Thompson, featuring guest vocalist Diane Marino, are on sale now.

For tickets call 1-800-594-8499 (TIXX). All seats are $22.50, plus a service charge. If there are still tickets available the night of the show they will be $25 at the door.

The show will be at the Culture Center Theater in Charleston on Thursday, Dec. 10 at 8 p.m. Doors open at 7:30 p.m.
Joy to the World is an annual live performance holiday jazz program hosted by pianist Bob Thompson and produced by West Virginia Public Broadcasting.

Marino  was born in Manhattan. She began piano training in classical studies and improvisation at the age of 10. She was accepted on New York City’s “Famed” High School for the Performing Arts as a classical piano major and later attended the Mannes College of Music in Manhattan where she studied piano with world-renowned concert pianist Murray Perahia.

While working towards her Bachelor of Music degree in piano performance, Diane began singing with small groups in the NYC tri-state area. Since she was singing professionally six nights a week, it was only natural and that she would combine her singing and piano playing skills after graduating from college.

Her fourth, and most recent CD  features jazz interpretations of classic pop tunes from the likes of Burt Bacharach, The Rascals, The Beach Boys and more.

Joining Diane and the Bob Thompson Unit will be Diane’s husband, Frank Marino, a bassist and arranger.

World-renowned jazz pianist Bob Thompson always plays as though it’s his last moment on the keyboard.  That advice came from Chicago saxophonist Bunky Green in the 1960s, and Thompson has observed it ever since. Bob is also a part of West Virginia Public Broadcasting’s Mountain Stage® band.

Bob has recorded numerous albums over the years including two compilations of past Joy to the World shows. His latest recording, produced in his own studio earlier this year, is called “Smile.”
