3 Greenbrier explosion victims listed in critical condition
RAINELLE, W.Va. (AP) — Three people injured in a series of explosions at a western Greenbrier County home are in critical condition, while two others have been upgraded, officials said Wednesday.
Tara Patterson and Tiffeny Williams were listed in critical condition Wednesday at University of Virginia Health System in Charlottesville, Va., a hospital spokesman said. Patterson’s brother, Terry Patterson Jr., is in fair condition, while Kelly Wickline is serious.
The Pattersons’ mother, Tacy, 50, is in critical condition at a Charleston hospital.
Homeowner Terry Patterson Sr., 54, was treated and released Monday, Greenbrier County Sheriff Jim Childers said.
The six were injured Monday by three explosions followed by a fire at the home near Rainelle, Childers said. Investigators still haven’t determined a cause.
“Suspicions, yes. Answers, no. All I know is it took a helluva blast to do the damage that this caused,” Childers said. “We’re trying to narrow it down.”
Investigators planned to speak with Terry Patterson Sr. and hoped to interview the other survivors, Childers said. “Until we can get them off life support or they can talk, we’re sitting here twiddling our thumbs.”
