Scholar's lectures postponed by storm
MORGANTOWN — West Virginia will have to wait a little longer to hear from one of its native sons, Harvard University scholar Henry Louis Gates Jr.
The approaching winter storm on Tuesday prompted West Virginia University to postpone his planned visits later this week to Morgantown and Charleston.
Gates is among the speakers at WVU’s annual Festival of Ideas. School spokesman John Bolt says the university is working to reschedule the lectures.
Gates was charged last summer with disorderly conduct by police investigating a report of a possible break-in at his home near Harvard University. The charge was dropped, but the incident sparked a national debate over racial profiling.
