Ky. House passes inspection fee

February 09, 2010 @ 07:53 PM

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) — The Kentucky House has passed a bill that would raise the fee for installation inspections of new manufactured homes.

The measure cleared the House on a 63-28 vote Tuesday. It now heads to the Senate.
Under the bill, the inspection fee would gradually go up from the current $100 to $150.

Democratic Rep. Charles Miller of Louisville, the bill’s lead sponsor, said the higher fee will help pay for more inspectors. The intent, he said, is to ensure that an installation inspection is done for every new manufactured home.

Miller estimated that the inspections now cover about 60 percent of those new homes.
But Rep. Jim Wayne, D-Louisville, called the fee increase a “hidden tax.”
