Fundraiser scheduled for church group going to Haiti

Mar. 28, 2013 @ 12:00 AM

HUNTINGTON -- Celebration Church is hosting a silent auction fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 6, to benefit a team traveling to Port-au-Prince, Haiti, in July 2013.

The auction, which includes refreshments and entertainment, will be at 610 19th St. W.

Auction items include: Walt Disney World Park Hopper passes, a Gatlinburg vacation package including a cabin stay, Dollywood tickets and passes to Ripley's of the Smokies, a 12-month membership to the Huntington YMCA, Kings Island tickets, several trips in West Virginia including golf packages at Twin Falls State Park and Stonewall Resort, an autographed football from University of Alabama Coach Nick Saban, Marshall University sports memorabilia and game tickets, autographed items from celebrities and athletes such as John Travolta, Tim Allen and Tony Hawk, meal vouchers, movie passes, tickets to professional baseball games and more.

The event will also include a raffle for an Apple 4th Generation 16 GB iPad. Tickets will be $5 each or 5 tickets for $20 and will be sold throughout the event. Participants in the raffle must be present to win. The dress code will be business casual and attendees must be 12 and older.

The relief team will volunteer at orphanages, schools and assist in construction projects. The team will also be purchasing basic necessities for distribution directly to those in need. Much of the country is still without electricity and running water following a series of natural disasters in the past three years, including the massive 2010 earthquake that claimed more than 300,000 lives. Families living in temporary encampments were again displaced by subsequent hurricanes.
