Ukulele concert showcases student's collaboration and musical talents

Apr. 05, 2013 @ 12:00 AM

HUNTINGTON -- One local high school senior let elementary school students take their musical skills into their own hands following a concert Tuesday night at the Huntington Museum of Art.

Six weeks worth of training paid off for Leah Levy, a senior at Huntington High School, and 30 students from Central City Elementary and Southside Elementary Schools during a ukulele concert.

In addition to the free lessons, the students also walked away with their own ukuleles from Levy, who secured funding from CAFÉ Huntington, Create Huntington and the IndieGoGo campaign to purchase the instruments.

Admission to the concert was free, but Levy accepted donations, which will go toward VH1's Save the Music Foundation Program.

The whole program was part of Levy's senior capstone project.
