July 30, 2010 @ 12:00 AM

HUNTINGTON -- A man from Mexico and a North Carolina woman were discovered passed out Wednesday night in an apartment when police found their 2-year-old daughter unsupervised in a nearby pizza restaurant drive-through lane, according to criminal complaints.

A 5-month-old daughter, also unsupervised, was in the living room area with the apartment's door standing open, the complaints said.

The complaints charge Adrian Perez Cruz and Alexandria Marie Daniels with two counts of felony child neglect and misdemeanor possessing a controlled substance. Both are 28.

The incident happened about 9:43 p.m. Wednesday in and near an apartment in the 100 block of Norway Avenue. Investigators said they found evidence of drug usage in the apartment.

Officers confiscated marijuana and Lortab pills. Cruz was charged with possessing the marijuana, while Daniels was charged with possessing both drugs.

The criminal complaints list the 2-year-old and 5-month-old to be Daniels' daughters and stepchildren of Cruz.

Criminal complaints list Cruz as the apartment's tenant, but also state his address as Mexico City. The complaints list Daniels as residing in Stokesdale, N.C.

Bond amounts were $110,000 for Daniels and $105,000 for Cruz.

The criminal complaints were authored by a Huntington police officer, who is also assigned to the River Cities Gun Crimes Task Force led by the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
