Plea expected by Mass. woman who posed as boy
CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (AP) — A Massachusetts woman accused of posing as a 17-year-old boy and having sex with a Lewis County girl is heading back to federal court to enter a plea.
Twenty-five-year-old Carissa Hads of Quincy is set to enter a plea Wednesday before U.S. Magistrate John Kaull in Clarksburg.
Hads had pleaded not guilty to one count of traveling in interstate commerce to engage in illegal sexual conduct, but recent court filings indicate she’s now prepared to enter a plea bargain with federal prosecutors.
The terms have not been outlined yet.
Investigators say Hads pretended to be a 17-year-old boy and began an online relationship with the girl in 2010. She visited the teen in West Virginia at least three times and had a sexual encounter in February.
