Oct. 11, 2012 @ 08:11 AM

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — Diabetes prevention efforts in West Virginia will be the subject of a roundtable discussion.

The state Bureau of Public Health and the Appalachian Regional Commission are holding the meeting Thursday afternoon in Charleston.

Among the scheduled speakers are U.S. Sen. Jay Rockefeller, Public Health commissioner Marian Swinker, and Dr. Ann Albright, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s division of diabetes control and translation.

Diabetes affects more than one in 10 adults in the state. Health professionals and representatives from state and federal agencies will discuss ways the state can further combat the disease.
