Pullman Plaza Playhouse announces cast for 'Spelling Bee'

September 02, 2010 @ 03:58 PM

HUNTINGTON — The Pullman Plaza Playhouse has announced the cast for its upcoming production of the quirky hit musical, “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.”

Set to run 7:30 p.m. Sept. 24-25 and 2 p.m., Sept. 26, as well as Oct. 1-2, the show is directed by Clara Adkins and Todd Preston. The show is produced by Paul Neace and Deborah Wolfe and the musical director is Steven Burnett.

The show stars Nancy Jackson (Rona Lisa Peretti), Shayne Gue (Mitch Mahoney), David Vickers (Douglas Panch), Michele Goodson-Burnett (Marcy Park),  Angela Wolfe-Hunt (Logainne Schwarzandgrubenierre), Alissa Fetheroff (Olive Ostrovsky), Elijah Boyles (Chip Tolentino), Mark Radford (William Barfee) and Bradley Leonard (Leaf Coneybear)

The Tony Award-winning musical is a hilarious tale of overachievers' angst chronicling the experience of six adolescent outsiders vying for the spelling championship of a lifetime. The show's Tony Award winning creative team has created the unlikeliest of hit musicals about the unlikeliest of heroes: a quirky yet charming cast of outsiders for whom a spelling bee is the one place where they can stand out and fit in at the same time

The show features six young people in the throes of puberty, overseen by grown-ups who barely managed to escape childhood themselves, learn that winning isn't everything and that losing doesn't necessarily make you a loser.

The Pullman Plaza Playhouse is also looking for show sponsors as well as playbill sponsors for its season. Show sponsorships range from $500 to $1,000; playbill sponsor ads run from $100, and a full season underwriter would be $7,500.: Go online at www.pullmanplaza.com for more info about overnight packages for the Playhouse shows.

For more information, call Shayne Gue at 304-412-0129 or Deborah Wolfe at 304-525-1001, e-mail at pullmanplayhouse@gmail.com or contact Gue through facebook or e-mail shaynegue@hotmail.com

Other Playhouse upcoming events include: The Starry Starry Night Fundraising concert with a cast of 22 singers at 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, and at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 12, at the Pullman Plaza Hotel. Tickets will be $30 for  dinner and a show or $10 for show only.

The Playhouse will also be presenting the "Little Shop of Horrors" at 7:30 p.m. on the evenings of Friday and Saturday, Oct. 29-30, and Nov. 5-6, with an additional midnight showing on Saturday, Oct. 30, and a Sunday matinee at 2: 30 p.m. Nov. 7.
