Republican plans run for W.Va. court seat
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — The Republican who nearly became West Virginia’s attorney general last year plans to challenge a powerful lawmaker for a circuit court seat next year.
Dan Greear says he’ll run against Democrat Carrie Webster, the outgoing chairwoman of the House of Delegates Judiciary Committee, for a Kanawha County Circuit Court seat.
This week, Webster was named to the seat, which opened when Irene Berger was appointed to U.S. District Court. The term expires next year.
In 2008, Greear came within a few thousand votes of unseating incumbent Attorney General Darrell McGraw, who won with 50.3 percent of the vote. In that election, Greear won Kanawha County by about 4,000 votes.
