Committee to consider process to replace Thompson

May. 24, 2013 @ 12:00 AM

WAYNE -- The Wayne County Democratic Executive Committee will have a special meeting to review the process for selecting candidates to replace West Virginia House of Delegates Speaker, D-Wayne.

The meeting will take place at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 30, in the County Commission room in the Wayne County Courthouse.

Rick Thompson will resign from the legislature next month to join Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin's Cabinet as secretary of Veterans Assistance.

The meeting is taking place to allow committee members to review the process for selecting candidates to replace Thompson once he has resigned.

Since there will not be a vacancy in the House of Delegates at the time of the meeting, no action will be taken toward selecting the three candidates that will be sent to Tomblin for consideration.

In anticipation of Thompson's departure, the committee is accepting letters of intent from those who are interested in being selected to serve out the remainder of Thompson's term.

Any registered Democrat residing in District 19 is eligible for the seat.

Letters of intent may be sent to: Wayne County Democratic Executive Committee, P.O. Box 212, Wayne, WV 25570. They also may be dropped off to committee Chairman Rodney Thompson.
