County schools wrap up another year

May. 23, 2013 @ 11:00 PM

HUNTINGTON -- Students in Cabell County finished the school year Thursday, with many elementary schools hosting games and activities.

At Meadows Elementary, students enjoyed a dance party and frozen treats. At Village of Barboursville Elementary, students participated in a mini Relay for Life, while Southside and Salt Rock hosted field days.

At the high schools, the focus is on Saturday, May 26, when seniors will graduate in ceremonies at the Big Sandy Superstore Arena. Huntington High's commencement is at 11 a.m., and Cabell Midland's is at 3 p.m.

And, for two middle schools, it was about saying good-bye. Enslow and Beverly Hills will consolidate to form Huntington East Middle School. They'll move into the new facility in January, with sixth-graders attending what has been dubbed the Highlawn campus and seventh- and eighth-graders attending the Saltwell campus during the first semester.

Teachers and school service personnel have two more days, Friday and Tuesday, May 28.

The 2013-2014 school year starts Thursday, Aug. 8.
