Saluting World War II veterans
HUNTINGTON -- There are many ways to honor veterans of war according to Ron Wroblewski.
Wroblewski, a veteran himself, co-coordinated the Banquet and Show to Honor World War II Veterans Thursday evening at the Renaissance Art Center, which he said is just one of the more prominent ways to say, "Thanks."
"We need to honor our veterans locally. It's up to each community to do something," Wroblewski said. " Everyone needs to understand the sacrifice that their generation and the generations before them have made to protect our freedom."
The show featured a small dinner a performance by the Victory Belles, who frequently perform at the WWII Museum in New Orleans and a speech from Medal of Honor recipient Hershel "Woody" Williams.
The entire evening, which was sponsored by the Cabell and Wayne Counties' Commissions and McDonalds, was free of cost for the veterans and their guests.
Wroblewski and Joe and Frema Wilson put the event together with the hopes that the veterans feel appreciated and the community keeps the veterans in it's thoughts.
"Everyone who sees a vet should thank them whether it's war or peace time no matter which of the services they're in," he said. "We're just going out of our way because we don't want to see any vets be treated badly."
