Commission certifies election
HUNTINGTON -- The Cabell County Commission, acting as the Board of Canvassers, certified the election results from Saturday's special primary election for the U.S. Senate on Thursday.
Cabell County Clerk Karen Cole said it was ready to be certified two days ago after canvassing had been completed. The 24-hour period between 4 p.m. Wednesday and 4 p.m. Thursday was scheduled by the Secretary of State for any recounts.
Cole said a recount was not needed in Cabell County.
Of the 59,064 registered voters in Cabell County, only 6,933, 11.74 percent, were cast, according to a summary report provided by the clerk's office.
Data from the report states that 2,405 ballots were cast for Republican candidates. There were 4,519 ballots cast for Democratic candidates. And of the nine cast under Mountain Party, only seven went for Jesse Johnson. The other two were blank ballots that a clerk's office employee said happens when a voter wants to keep their voting history updated.
