Reunion scheduled Sept. 3-4 in Logan County

September 02, 2010 @ 11:10 PM

LOGAN, W. Va. -- The 12th Tri-Annual All-Classes Sharples High School Reunion will be held Friday and Saturday, Sept. 3-4, at the Earl Ray Tomblin Convention Center in Chief Logan State Park.

Events both nights will go from 6 p.m. to midnight.

The last graduating class at Sharples High School was in 1993.

This school served generations of the coal-mining area's students until it closed. The remaining area students transferred to Chapmanville High School. In the 67 years the two schools were open, more than 1,600 students graduated with hundreds more attending. In 2002, the building was demolished. The former site of the school is now home to the Mountain Laurel Mining Complex, one of the largest processing facilities in the state.

Weekend activities include a Parade of Classes, a memorial service, an alumni basketball game (10 a.m. Saturday at the Old Chapmanville High School), a veteran's ceremony and a banquet.
