Jul. 14, 2013 @ 11:34 PM

ASHLAND -- The Jesse Stuart Foundation is planning an Open House to mark what would have been the 107th birthday of its namesake.

The event is planned for noon to 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9, at the foundation headquarters, 1645 Winchester Ave., in Ashland. There will be special events, refreshments and discounts on merchandise.

There will also be a quilt display from the Stuart family, hosted by Nancy Osborne, and performances of traditional Appalachian music by JSF Board members Carl and Buzzy Leming.

Several authors will also be on hand to discuss and sign books. Authors include Jack D. Ellis ("Missing Christmas: My Life in the Depression & WWII," "Kentucky Memories: Reflections of Rowan County 1856-2006"); James M. Gifford ("Jesse Stuart: An Extraordinary Life," "Greenup County Pictorial History"); Mark Maynard ("Teamwork: Ashland's 1961 Championship Basketball Season," "Mark My Words: Tales of Brandon Webb," "O.J. Mayo and Other Sports Legends of Northeastern Kentucky"); Ruby Miller ("Simply Delicious Desserts"); Lewis O. Nicholls ("Greenup County, Kentucky: A Historical Reflection"); G. Sam Piatt ("Men of Valor: WWII Veterans from Southern Ohio and Eastern Kentucky Tell Their Combat Stories"); and Edwina Pendarvis ("Raft Tide" and "Railroad: How We Lived and Died," "Between Two Worlds: A Biography of Pearl S.
