Fitness equipment giveaway awaits 3 W.Va. schools
CHARLESTON — Three public elementary or middle schools in West Virginia will each receive $100,000 worth of physical education equipment as part of a national fitness promotion.
Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin says schools can apply for grants from the National Foundation for Governors' Fitness Council. The foundation will select three winning schools from the state.
Priorities will be given to schools with a high percentage of participation in free and reduced-price meal programs; those with a significant proportion of students considered to be overweight or obese compared to the state average; and schools demonstrating a robust plan for using the equipment.
Nomination forms are due by May 3.
