Volunteers sought for cycling event for homeless vets
HUNTINGTON -- Participants are sought for a cycling event in downtown Huntington on the morning of Sunday, May 5, that is raising money for homeless veterans.
The Time Trial for the Homeless Veterans Resource Center is a race in which cyclists pedal through a seven-mile course on the streets of the downtown. Each cyclist is given a specific start time as they compete against the clock for the fastest time in their age group.
The course will be closed, and the Huntington Police Department will manage traffic at all intersections with traffic lights on the course.
All proceeds from the event benefit the Homeless Veterans Resource Center, 624 9th St. The center provides veterans with the information they need to find permanent housing and become employed.
Registration for the time trial is available at www.active.com or www.tristateracer.com. Prizes will be awarded for the top finishers in each age group, and every participant will receive a T-shirt and water bottle.
Volunteers also are needed to monitor traffic at the intersections without traffic lights. Each volunteer will receive a free race T-shirt for their help.
To sign up as a volunteer, visit www.acecycling.org/time-trial-volunteers and fill out the online form, or call race coordinator Jeff Ball at 304-634-0372.
